Guiding Principles

Energy Efficency

Context is important when speaking about “Energy Efficiency” in today’s green minded, environmentally conscious society. In our market context, energy efficiency is KiloWatt Hours and BTU’s per hour in load calculations and strategic equipment sizing. It’s also life cycle costs, equipment maintenance schedules, value engineering, and streamlining design and plan production practices. We’ve designed U.S. Green Building Council LEED certified building systems, commercial interiors, non-certified LEED projects and helped optimize existing central heating/cooling/ventilation systems.

Efficient designs

At Rakes Engineers we believe efficient design of Mechanical, Electrical, and Plumbing Systems leads to improved engineer and client engagement, reduced changes in the field, and abbreviated design schedules. We learned that appropriate phase/project scheduling, thorough discovery/confirmation survey, regular coordination, and multiple tiered quality control reviews consistently produces superior construction documents. We take project ownership very seriously because they aren’t just projects to us, they are an expression of who we are as engineers.

Client focused consulting

We like to think our greatest asset towards a satisfied client is our ability to listen.  It’s a simple concept that goes a long way towards a project’s success.  We treat clients, end-users, construction personnel, and consultants as we would like to be treated, as humans.  We listen at project conception to establish scope and expectations.  We provide professional insight and lessons learned from our past so the client can make informed decisions.  We listen to construction personnel to decrease field changes and change orders. We listen to the client and end-user at the end of the project to improve our next project experience together.
